Resort skiing safety basics for first-timers
Use this as a planning checklist before you arrive. Follow posted resort rules, instructor guidance, and ski patrol instructions on the mountain.
On the hill
- Stay in control.
- Give people downhill the right of way.
- Stop where you can be seen.
- Look uphill before merging or starting.
Equipment
- Use properly fitted rental gear.
- Ask staff about painful boots or loose gear.
- Use devices that prevent runaway equipment where required.
- Do not adjust bindings yourself.
Resort rules
- Obey posted signs.
- Stay out of closed areas.
- Match terrain to ability.
- Ask instructors or patrol when unsure.
